The University of Minnesota Extension’s farm and rural stress programs offer resources for those dealing with farming’s current challenges and struggles. The Minnesota Farm and Rural Helpline (833-600-2670) can be called 24/7 for a confidential and free chat with trained staff and volunteers. Other Minnesota Department of Ag farm and rural stress resources can be found on their website . Mobile crisis teams are available in every Minnesota county with crisis team counselors who are able to respond quickly and provide in-person, short-term counseling or mental health services during a crisis or emergency. Calls are answered immediately 24 hours/day.

Remember your neighbors and friends

This is a time of high stress and anxiety. It is important now, more than ever, to reach out to your neighbors and friends to check in on them through phone calls or virtual means, such as a virtual coffee visit. When checking on neighbors and friends be aware of the signs of stress . The Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) at the University of Minnesota has some great resources for stress and mental health . Be sure to check it out!

May is mental health month

Join the U.S Ag Safety and Health Center's effort to promote resources for farmers and rural communities. Accessing mental health resources and support is challenging for American farmers and their families who increasingly face financial hardship, weather changes, chronic pain, suicidal thoughts and other unrelenting difficulties. This year, the 11 U.S. Agricultural Safety and Health Centers are teaming up to promote resources for farmers during a five-week Mental Health Awareness campaign that focuses on a different topic each week.
